School visit
October 26, 2006

Yesterday I spent my day at All Saints Academy, a catholic K-8 school of all economic and social backgrounds. I was amazed at the number of children who shared stories of lost love ones, friends or even a parent's friend of a friend, from our military... I was so touched seeing the amount of pride and effort they put into each card, letter or coloring page they created for our troops overseas. The beauty of it was the innocence these children have... the wonderful lives, compared to the hardships so many from other countires face everyday. These children, some from single family homes, barely making it and others from financially established homes, not going without.... sharing a classroom, sharing a school, boys and girls, in a free state... a free country. I am so proud I am going to be able to forward their work to those they call their American Heroes!

2007-11-11: Single Rose Angel Assistance Program
I wanted to share this site with you and anyone else that would be interested. It is a site that helps moms out, usually single moms but all are welcome to join. This particular request is for holiday help for their families. I happen to be one of those families on the list. The webpage that has the list to adopt a family is Singlerose.com/angels .
If you can get the word out about this program it would be great.
The following is a Press Release about it.
Thanks
Michelle

Calling All Editors: Please consider our USA Today Award Winning Site as a "Holiday Piece." For the 11th year in a row now, we are proud to provide the ONLY online Angel Tree for Single Mothers.

Sponsored in part by Kennedale News, and Speed-Soft Web Hosting Incorporated, the 11th Annual Online Angel Assistance Program opens October 1 and runs through December 31.

Single Rose Resource for Single Mothers "where courageous and determined women offer soul-wrenching stories about how they became single moms" - (USAToday 1998) - a comprehensive single mother site, providing emotional support and understanding for divorced and never married mothers. Features a mom of the week, bulletin boards, chat, and extensive original articles database.

Since 1996 approximately 1713 children have been adopted by an "Angel." Single Rose .com made the program a breeze for the internet novice or expert.

Catherine Cartwright, former Senior Editor of Working Mother Magazine adopted a family and said, "OK, I did it! It's a great idea. Very simple to participate."

From John Dvorak's PC Magazine column 2004, "I think your program is great. I have no family of my own and this provides a way to help those less fortunate with the added benefit of generating a little holiday cheer for me through the spirit of giving. Thank you for providing such a fine service to such deserving families." JC.

We have included here notes we received. One from a "recipient" of last year's program, and one from a last years "Angel". Click here for complete list of 2005 Testimonials.
Angel Testimonial:
"I think your program is wonderful. I have been a single mother with nothing and it is nice to be able to help others that are going through the same thing. I am sure it makes me happier then it does them. :-) Thank You," Mary Lee

Recipient Testimonial:
"I LOVE your site! Without your site and Angels my children would not have a Christmas. I do believe in Angels and I have to tell you how much I appreciate your site and your Angels. Being a Mom is a very hard job, but being a single mom is sometimes harder. In November I came down with Bacterial Spinal Meningitis and my children almost lost the only parent they have ever known. But with lots of prayer and belief in Angels I am on my way to recovery. It must have been scary knowing that your Mom was in a coma and not sure if she would live or die. Luck had it I came out of my coma 5 days later, I am not 100% yet but I am alive. And because of this we were just going to celebrate our ability to be together, we still are but now they can each get a gift that kids should get on Christmas. Too many times it seems that my children have to deal with such grown up issues, I am so glad that someone thought of my children enough so they don't have to go without on Christmas. God Bless all of you! Love," Tami Keepers

Program founder Ms. Jones was selected 2002 Angel of Dallas by Todays Dallas Woman Magazine and also 2002 Women of Influence Award.
