Deployment Ceremony
November 14, 2007
This past weekend was one of the best i've had in a while. I got to suprise my fiance at his deployment ceremony. Thurs. evening I get a text from him asking me what I'm doing Friday. Of course I was scheduled to work. He wanted me to come to his deployment ceremony. His sister and brother in-law were already planning to leave Thurs night. I couldn't believe he waited until the very last minute to mention it. But thats how he is sometimes. Upset that I was gonna miss it, I texted his sis and told her to take alot of good pics for me. Right away she asked me to come with them, and that if I could hurry and pack she would pick me up after work...long story short, I ended up calling into work Friday and we left town thurs night.
It as so great, he had no clue! On the drive up there I kept convincing him that I was in school Fri morning. lol. The drive there was the longest I've ever been on, totaling in 14hrs. There were three of us, so we kept taking turns. We arrived at fort polk two hrs prior to the ceremony. But, we still needed to get ready, we had been driving all night and most of the morning so we were still in our pj wear. Since Nick was on the feild preparing for the ceremony we couldn't use his room to get dressed. We ended up having to change in the PX bathroom.
The ceremony finally started somewhere around 3pm. It was really something watching all the different divisions line up and march in formation. Nick always tells me about how he has formation numeruous times throughout the day, but I never got to see it til then. I really enjoyed it. I did my best to hide from him until after they were allowed to break and see their family members. Once they did, i quickly hid behind the bleachers. I wanted his sis to see him before me, after all the effort she went through to get there. After they huged, she told him she had a suprise for him. He was like, "If that's Heather, she's in trouble." lol. I ran upto him, and he was so suprised! :) It was a moment I won't forget.
After the ceremony we went out to dinner. The rest of the weekend consisited of going to New Orleans to shop around the French Quarter and party it up at Burbon street's nightlife. We also sampled LA's local cusine such as Cafe Du Monde and the Gumbo Shop, gum. I defenitally took advantage of the yummy seafood! :)
The hardest part of this weekend was leaving Nick again. I HATE IT! It was really hard knowing I wouldn't see him for 15 more months. He kept me positive by reminding me that when he comes home we can finally get married, I can't wait to be his forever and ever! I'm so thankful to his sis and bro in-law for inviting me to come! I really came to enjoy the LA lifestyle, I could defenitally picture myself living there eventually.
