About Me: I am a proud wife of a US soldier (for 14 years!) and mother of 3 beautiful children. I am married to a wonderful husband and father. God blessed me greatly when He sent Eric into my life. I love being a military wife, it has given me opportunities to see things and meet people I would have never otherwise had the opportunity to. I have been through deployments and several moves and know the difficulties that military families face. Any military wives out there that need advice or just someone to sound off to, please feel free. I am a Christian and try to honor that by being a good wife and mother accordingly. Our kids bring us great joy (and stress). They are typical kids and with the girls being teenagers that can be especially stressful. Despite that, they are all 3 great kids. We are often complimented on how polite and well behaved they are and are very proud of them. Chelsea is 18 and just graduated in May. She works at Wally World and will start college courses soon. Aly is 16 and a junior in high school. She is a nut, like most middle children. She is working at Sonic. Austin is 12, and is in the 8th grade. We have just moved to the Clarksville area. We lived here before so it is not totally new, although before we lived on post and now off. We are feeling our way around the new neighborhood. The girls have jobs now so that gives them something to do. I hope to be working soon...I am looking. This is just another chapter in our military life and we are looking forward to it! God Bless!

Marriage and the Military
August 8, 2007

Ok, I am going to vent a little to the younger ladies out there and put in my 2 cents. I am usually not so opinionated, but I have just heard/seen of several situations that have prompted this. Please do not be offended, but what I am saying is true. The bad part is that children are brought into these situations. I also know that this does not speak to every 19 yr old that marries. I am speaking in very general terms about the young couples I have seen both on the internet and that I know in person. Why do you (young girls) marry young boys (18-22), that you BARELY know (sometimes for days or months), and move hundreds of mile away to another state (or sometimes country) and an unfamiliar way of life and then are suprised when it isn't all a bed of roses! I write this not to criticize, but it is a story I have seen far too much. Young soldier, marries a girl...barley out of high school. Niether of you know how to be an adult, you don't even know who you are as a person yet. Then you get married and think it is going to be great, but the minute there is a deployment and you are separated for more than a week and can't be attached by a cell phone every minute of the day and realize that it isn't easy to support a family on E-2 pay, you get frustrated or your dh gets frustrated.

Ladies, don't be in such a hurry to get married, especially if it is just because he is going off into the army or deploying....statistically speaking...IT DOESN'T work! I realize some beat the statistics, I am one of them, but don't chance it. If it is REAL love, you'll be there for him through the long distance relationship. Discuss how money and management of the household will be handled in his absence BEFORE you say I do. It is inevitable he will be gone, whether to war, school, or training. Know the answers ahead of time and consider waiting til he is done with his first tour. Many guys go in with one idea about the military as a career and after their first tour, they change their minds. It is a way of life you want to be sure is right for you.

Anyway, sorry for ranting! I am just truely sad about the number of marriages I see ending, before they even get started. I know the divorce rate for the older folks in the military isn't that great either, but that is another story and those usually end for different reasons.

2008-01-10: FREE taxes for Military Families!
Okay, I just spoke to Military One Source, and here is how it is going to work: On 14 JAN Military One Source will open a link on their website http://www.military onesource. com/skins/ MOS/home. aspx

You HAVE to log in to Military One Source FIRST. You will need to create a user name and password for Military One Source. Once you have logged in, click the link to the taxes. It will take you to the H&R Block Web page.

YOU CANNOT LOG DIRECTLY INTO H&R BLOCK TO GET THE FREE TAXES. YOU MUST USE MILITARY ONE SOURCE'S LINK.

Once you are into H&R Block you will have to register with H&R Block the same as Military One Source. You will create a user name and password. This will let you into the system, and allow you to start inputting your personal and tax information. Keep this username and password handy because after the link is dead at Military One Source (after tax season) you can use that to get back in to check on the status of your taxes if you are still waiting for whatever reason.

You will be able to do rapid refund on your taxes. I do this every year so I was happy to hear that. The average wait time for rapid refund using this system is 2-3 weeks from time of submission. As with anything, sometimes you get it sooner, but count on the 2-3 weeks.

For those of you who are weary of trying to do this one on your own, I'm with you. And I'm very happy to tell you that if you have questions or get stuck on something in the H&R Block system, you can call Military One Source at 1-800-342-9647 and they will have a professional tax advisor on hand to walk you thru the process.

2007-10-09: NJROTC at Cypress Creek Orienteering this Sat, USF Football home games will have taste tests of Who's Your Daddy Energy Drinks
The Navy JROTC will be participating in Orienteering this Saturday and Whos Your Daddy is going to be helping them raise funds through sales of cases of the drinks in Orlando. I'll send info on how they finish as it is a land navigation type race against other teams.

Hey, Has anyone seen these drinks yet at military installation vending or AAFES, Should start seeing them soon. Ask your AAFES manager and tell them you want Who's Your Daddy to be sold in places it is not yet.

*** Anyone going to USF football games should be able to get a sample at a taste test during the next three to four home games.
