About Me: I am a proud Navy wife married to Scott - a 'Lifer" going on 15 years. Scott is my best friend, lover and hero. I admire his integrity and character and am amazed at all he does for our family and our country.

Okay...enough of the commercial for my hubby...LOL

As for me...I am a military spouse support columnist, writing for 15 papers including 2 blogs in major papers. I publish 2 family support e-newsletters. My most recent project is an internet talk show for spouses.

I am owned by a cocker spaniel named Caleb...and I love hanging with him.

Mostly I am interested in getting to you and learning from each other and supporting one another! Drop me a note!

Favorite Things: Scott, Chocolate, disneyland (not disney world), scream parks, Scott, Chocolate, roller coasters, sunny days, sleeping in on Saturdays when Scott is home (which isn't often enough), Scott, Chocolate, a good joke, Scott, Chocolate, The Steelers, oh and did I mention that I like chocolate?

Why on Earth Did I Marry a ServiceMember?
August 30, 2007

In the midst of my husband's last deployment my mother called. Admittedly we do not enjoy the closest relationship. However during the course of the conversation Mom asked, "Is he here or gone?" I told her he was gone again and that it was hard, really hard. Her response? "Well you're the one who married him!"

I have spoken with many spouses who have had some of the most insensitive and -ok, I'm going to say it - downright STUPID comments sent their way...

- "Oh, well you must be used to it by now...he's been gone so long. It should be easy!"
- "Military marriages are not as close as 'real' marraiges."
- "I don't understand why you aren't protesting the war so your husband can come home sooner."
Or, my personal favorite...
- "I can't understand how you could be PRO-war."

I fell in love with a man, a person, an incredible man of character and integrity. A quiet man of principle. A man who weeps when the flag goes by on Memorial Day.

That man happens to be a member of our nation's armed forces. His career is a part of who he is.

Why did I marry him? Because I am so in love with him? Yes! Because I believe in him? Yes. Because I am incomplete without him in my life? Yes.

I choose this life because it is such a privilege to stand behind this man who sacrifices not just for his wife and family but for his neighbor and nation - whether they know it or not. It is a privildge to support him, to be his number one cheeleader. To be his Morale Officer. It is a privilege.

His small part in this military may not 'win' the war. But his part contributes to mission success and I have the privilege of living to support him.

Why did I marry him? Because through him I have learned the rich reward of living a life of service and sacrifice. I will never earn a medal for serving by his side...but I will revel in his contribution.

It is a privilege...
