The Porch

and the art of Listening to America

The PORCH trailer, posted on facebook, has been viewed 57,000 times in recent weeks.

Whether affixed to the front of a country cabin or attached to an urban tenement, porches have witnessed -- and fostered -- the birth of a lot of great American music, and a lot of great American talents.

Tapping into that proud tradition, and preserving it, I'll be celebrating The Porch in both a filmed docu-series and staged theater performances.  For the stage shows, initially we'll be recreating an Appalachian porch in a downtown Richmond theater, where we'll host Virginia's remarkable folk minstrels, balladeers, pickers, bards, and storytellers. Real artists, who still do much of their singing and playing on porches.  And who will now grace ours.

Join us on an odyssey to explore this most mystical of musical incubators -- the American porch.  It's where American music was born, and where it lives again.
